Therapeutic approach

Because of the range of needs that children, young people and adults bring to the social worker, I use a broad range of therapeutic techniques and resources.

The use of Focused psychological interventions such as cognitive behavior therapies, DBT, relaxation therapies, narrative therapies and assertiveness skills based approaches facilitate evidence-based interventions consistent with my accreditation as a mental health social worker.

In addition, I utilise transactional analysis, inner child therapies, desensitisation and trauma sensitive counselling approaches. I may as needed incorporate art therapy, sand play and symbol therapy and my experience running programs such as adult children of alcoholics, assertiveness programs and dialectical behavioral programs lend additional structure for wellness goals to be achieved.

However, my overall approach focuses on my clients as the expert, with their own strengths and resilience. This approach forms a basis for a genuine partnership in which each person's individual goals and efforts at wellness, growth and/or recovery are achieved.
